The bedroom is the most intimate of all areas in a home. In a scenario of shrinking spaces, the bedroom remains the only space in the house, that you can truly call your own. The bedroom furniture, in form and style, should thus be a true reflection of your inner self. The choice of furniture really begins with a review of what activities you seek to pursue in the bedroom. Since rest is of primary importance in a bedroom, the primary focus needs to be on the placement and design of the bed. The augmentation of storage, either with spaces below the bed or behind the headboard is logical, particularly for storage of spare bed linen and pillows.
The materials and colors used in the design of furniture could range from sensual to funky to reflect your signature style. The idea is to keep the design of the furniture "dynamic". As the child grows older, white boards can be replaced with colored laminates when required. Keep color schemes neutral and use posters and cutouts to add drama to your child' bedroom decor. It is pointless to design "Hannah Montana" themed bedroom for your 8-10 year old only to discover that she finds it "not so cool" by age 12. Remember, more is not always better.
Furniture for guest bedrooms should be elegant yet functional. Simple beds and night stands with spacious cabinets and a basic dresser should suffice. These are best designed on the lines of a hotel room. Choosing bedroom furniture should be done after considering all options available. Spending money on something that is nice, but cannot be used for your bedroom, will only result in wasteful spending.
