Bunk beds can be used in a variety of ways to make children's rooms look great while saving space. If you don't want to purchase bunks, which can be pricey, and enjoy woodworking building projects then following bunk bed plans is a fun way to get started. Whether you are building or buying these types of beds, here are some creative ways to put them together.
Already have 2 single beds? If you already have two single beds it may be possible to rivet the headboard and posts to the wall, one above the other. Securing the beds together evenly is also a necessity. You can build or buy a ladder to access the upper bed and disassemble when you no longer want bunk beds. This idea is useful as the two beds can be modified to suit changing needs such as when children grow older and no longer desire bunk beds. Changing up an existing bunk setup You may have a standard bunk bed already set up and want to slightly change it. If so, this idea may be suitable for the appropriately aged child. Simply buy a slide that can be attached to the top bunk and use it as a way of getting down. Children absolutely love this new addition to their bed. If the ladder is in the way, then simply move it to the other end of the bed to make space for the slide. When the slide is ready to be removed, it can always be recycled by attaching it to an existing or newly built play set in the back yard. Bunk Arrangements The next idea for a bunk bed which is becoming popular is when the bottom bunk is turned to face the opposite direction. The upper bunk is placed alongside the wall, while the bottom bed is turned so its headboard is against the wall. The bottom bed can be a double or if a single, the extra space can be used to set up a side table or desk. Create a Loft Bed Another great way to change up a bunk bed is to remove the bottom bed completely and fill in the space with a desk or table used for playing and working. The top bunk then becomes a type of loft bed. The area left below is big enough to use as a play area, work space, living space, entertainment area or storage. This is a functional arrangement, looks great and saves space in a small bedroom. This is also a great way to modify your beds when children grow too old for bunk beds and need a place to complete homework.
Bed Headboards Only
Although only four creative ideas are listed here, there are several more ways to design, build and arrange bunk beds. Bunks are great for kids and can be changed up a bit as they grow older. These types of beds are not only suitable for siblings, but also for sleepovers or general space saving in bedrooms.
